Sight is the human being'smost important sense for functioning.
Injury to the eye or vision loss, severely impacts the individual's independence and quality of life
Hadassah's Ophthalmology Department is the leading academic
Ophthalmology Dept. in Israel, providing services, in all of its
sub-specialties.
We treat about 40,000 patients in our outpatient clinics from
Israel and abroad, and perform about 5,000 surgeries annually.
We use state of the art technologies for diagnostics and care, which are
precise to several microns -- approximately the size of a cell.
Breakthrough studies are being carried out in our laboratories,
with findings at the forefront of international eye and vision research.
We are conducting, among others, genetic studies on rare and common
diseases causing blindness, genetic therapy and stem cell therapy.
Our department's staff is committed to advancing ophthalmology internationally.Over the past 50 years our physicians have traveled frequently to developing countries to provide clinical and surgical assistance.The Dept. also runs a 3-year specialization course for
physicians from developing countries, with doctors from 36 countries
having attended to date.
