This is just one isolated example, but I could give you many more. I think people that live/have lived in Japan can back me up in the comments section - what is an example of packaging overkill you've experienced in Japan?
Some times it can be quite nice, as when you're buying a gift for someone and they wrap it up for you and give you a bag you can give it to that person in, but most times it just seems really wasteful.
How about where you're from - does this happen?
The ironic followup is that in many other ways Japan really tries hard to be eco-friendly. But they just can't give up their love of over-packaging.
