YWCA program celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day

"I wish he were here to celebrate with us," Devon Keene, 9, said Monday of the late Martin Luther King Jr.

"I wish he would come back to life."

Keene and about 130 other school-age children scampered around the gymnasium of Lancaster's YWCA, assembling for the organization's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.

A few hours earlier, about 80 preschoolers honored the civil rights figure in a similar, though less historical, fashion.

"We're here to celebrate his birthday," Monica Kirchner, YWCA's school-age child-care director, announced to the crowded room. "And at a birthday party, there's always fun activities."
