Dating from 1943, this short film shows various missions of the U.S. Army Air Force. It begins with the "Berlin Sleeper" on its way to raid targets in Rome. The B-17 had at this point conducted over 100 bombing missions on various fronts. Next, wet weather operations in North Africa by the 321st bombardment group -- moving aircraft to Italy. Then, P-47 Thunderbolts are shown operating as part of the 8th Air Force over Occupied Europe. P-47s work as fighter escorts for B-17s against the Luftwaffe interceptors. An explanation of the gun camera is shown, as well as gun camera footage showing the downing of German Messerschmidts. The bombing of Le Trait, France is shown by B-26s with an escort of Spitfires. The 8th Air Force is shown again bombing Wilhelmshaven, including the famed Memphis Belle B-17. As shown, B-25s breaking German communication lines on Salerno, and P-38s landing on a temporary field at Salerno just 24 hours after construction began. Tragedy strikes as a P-38 collides with a water truck, and a Mitchell bomber ground loops on landing. The film ends with the raid on Ploiesti, Romania.
