The official reason is an affair. That would be with his biographer Paula Broadwell, but as with many explanations promoted by the Obama administration, the official story is meant to keep you in the dark because the real reason is embarrassing. What could be more embarrassing than an affair? How about a US operation to arm al-Qaeda to overthrow President al-Assad's regime in Syria?

Remember CIA Director David Petraeus was scheduled to testify before Congress in a few days about what he knew about the Benghazi attack on a US mission, which killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens on September 11th of this year.

You've got to admit there was something fishy about the official story of the incident. Originally, the attack was blamed on reaction to an obscure anti-Islam video. I say obscure because it only had 17 views on YouTube.

And get this. US forces were not allowed to help, even though the Obama administration watched a live drone feed of the seven-hour incident. So what was really going on?

Here's what radio talk show host John Baxter recently told CNBC's Larry Kudlow — Benghazi is about taking arms and men and putting them into Syria in the guise of the Free Syria Army.

So what about the ex-CIA Director's affair? If was over months ago. Isn't the timing of his resignation interesting -- too late to hurt Obama at the polls, but possibly early enough to keep Petraeus from testifying.
