Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes (メタルギアソリッドグラウンドゼロ Metaru Gia Soriddo Guraundo Zero?) is an upcoming stealth action video game developed by Kojima Productions and produced by Konami. It will be the ninth entry in the Metal Gear series, and will be the first to have an open world gameplay structure. Director Hideo Kojima confirmed that Big Boss will return as the game's protagonist in a story that will serve as a prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5.

The game was announced at a private function celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Metal Gear series, and made its public debut two days later at the 2012 Penny Arcade Expo. It will be the first game to utilise the Fox game engine developed by Kojima Productions.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is an upcoming video game developed by "Moby Dick Studio" for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game deals with an amputated middle-aged man who awakens from a coma, and attempts to escape a hospital infested with visions of supernatural horrors and an invasion of an unknown group of soldiers. Connections to MGS or MGS5 have not been confirmed, but I believe the game is in fact Metal Gear Solid 5!

The game was officially unveiled on December 7th, 2012 at the Spike Video Game Awards. A reveal trailer was shown at the beginning of the show, which the announcer claimed was entirely real-time. It is being developed by the fledgling development team, Moby Dick Studio, situated in Sweden and directed by Joakim Mogren. It was confirmed via the director, Mogren's twitter, that the game would not actually use Konami's Fox Engine but in fact use their proprietary Whale Engine.

After the teaser trailer aired, numerous video game-related websites and fansites reported the trailer's seemed connection to the Metal Gear series of video games. Although the trailer presented the game as being developed by Moby Dick Studio, there were a few hints that The Phantom Pain may have some connection to Kojima Productions and the Metal Gear series due to the protagonist's resemblance to Big Boss, as well as the head of Moby Dick Studio, Joakim Mogren's first name was an anagram of "Kojima". In addition, it was also discovered from the whois search engine that the studio didn't even exist until roughly two weeks prior to the trailer's official release. It was discovered that the title "Metal Gear Solid V" fits perfectly in the indents and negative space above the game's logo if using the exact same font and it was noted that the in-game graphics portrayed in the trailer bore close resemblance to those of the Fox Engine.

Ground Zeroes takes place sometime after Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, with Big Boss returning as the protagonist under the name of "Snake". In the PAX 2012 trailer it was revealed that his mission objective was to be rescue both Pacifica Ocean and Chico Libre from Camp Omega, a hidden American site located in southern Cuba. Kaz Miller discusses the plan for the mission with Snake, claiming that he would finish it in a short time.

An unknown scarred figure was seen in the demo leading an organization under the shroud of XOF, leaving the grounds of Camp Omega before Snake arrives. He is seen handing a cassette deck to an unknown boy in a cage. He is shown to have a small gap in his chest with a headphone jack attached. The scarred man calls him a traitor and tells him that he is a "real man now". Only to leave the camp via helicopter only to discard all the group's shoulder sleeve insignias by throwing them out of the vehicle.

Features such as crawling and crouch-walking have returned from previous entries, as seen in the demo. The game's movements and animations, however, are far more smooth and include realistic transitions. Third-person shooting has been confirmed, as are the searchlights from the original Metal Gear Solid which look to play a larger role in Ground Zeroes. The player in the demo is seen driving a vehicle and calling for a helicopter. Creator Hideo Kojima has expressed the more open world feel to the game, as the areas that Snake will traverse are far larger than in previous entries
