What's Your Story? It's amazing how a good book can be a help to both coaches and their clients. This video features some of the books we talked about at our recent afternoon book discussion of the Ann Arbor, Michigan Coach Cafe' gathering.

Here's are some quotes that might encourage you to look at your own story: what it has been, what it is today, and what it is becoming:

"In many shamanic societies, if you came to a shaman or medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions. When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop finding comfort in the sweet territory of silence? Where we have stopped dancing, singing, being enchanted by stories, or finding comfort in silence is where we have experience the loss of soul. Dancing, singing, storytelling, and silence are the four universal healing salves." ~ Gabrielle Roth

"Stories are how we think. They are how we make meaning of life. Call them schemas, scripts, cognitive maps, mental models, metaphors, or narratives. Stories are how we explain how things work, how we make decisions, how we justify our decisions, how we persuade others, how we understand our place in the world, create our identities, and define and teach social values." ~ Dr. Pamela Brown Rutledge, Ph.D.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.' We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. ...And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." ~ Marianne Williamson

Context for the video: The two Deborahs (Deborah Campbell & Deborah Nystrom) are connected with this evening at Coach Cafe Ann Arbor, meeting at Webers' Inn. This was our first PM book gathering where we discussed the Power of Story, introversion, extroversion, quiet, mindfulness & meditation connected with our coaching practices.

The end of the video lists the coaches who attended. Coaches: Glenda, Deborah, Geri, Tony, Bruce and Leon, please comment on anything that might help our viewers, learners, coaches, clients, the public on how the power of story, assisted by our book references, may be of help.
