After the BP Deep Horizon oil rig spill in the spring of 2010, The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Cincinnati, OH wanted to make a lamentation to the loss of life and to the devastation that was going on as the result of the oil spill in the Gulf coast.
As the largest natural disaster in the United States history it was felt that a special prayer of repentance and an observation of the tragedy were needed. It was decided that a way to offer the community an opportunity to mourn was to create a public mural followed by an outdoor candlelight prayer service.
