This is the only mountainous region in the country, with Kékes at it's modest 1014 meters being the highest peak of the Mátra hills, not far from here. Seat of County Nógrád, second smallest county seat with 38,000 people, in the northern part of Hungary. Used to be a mining town and heavily industrialized.
