Amateur video of Detroit activist Elena Herrada appealing to the Detroit Library Commission not to yield to the dictatorial plans of the state-imposed Emergency Public Schools Manager Roy Roberts, Detroit Library Commission meeting, Explorer's Room, Detroit Public Library main branch, Tuesday, April 16, 2013.

Ms. Herrada, who was elected to represent District 2 of the Detroit Board of Eduction, describes herself a member "in Exile" because of Roberts's successful efforts, supported by the coporate-backed, right-wing Republican Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder and the reactionary Republican Attorney General Bill Schuette, to nullify the vote in this majority-"black," mostly-Democratic city.

Since I missed Ms. Herrada's account of her arrest at that morning's Detroit City Council meeting, where she was among a group that protested the now-powerless council's 5-2 "yes" vote to award a $3.35 million, six-month contract to Detroit Emergency Financial Manager Kevyn Orr's former law firm, Jones Day, I asked her in an interview after the commission meeting to explain what happened.
