A huge octagonal lake with water fowl in it and a single fountain in the center, and "Les Cascades," a waterfall/fountain series, are in the extensive formal gardens around Le Château de Sceaux, South of Paris. A mini-Versailles you can get to by city bus, with Le Musée de l'Ile-de-France inside the castle, a huge stable building, an enormous orangerie (open after 4 pm), a casual outdoor restaurant, sweeping views, outdoor art exhibits, and lawns you're allowed to play on, a canal basin you can fish in (if you have a license), a place to bike in . . . and on the first Sunday of each month in France, it's free. (Many places of cultural interest are.) The park and garden have many entrances, of course, and there's no charge for that, obviously. Picnicking is permitted, too, just no fires allowed. Restroom facilities were clearly indicated. I think there's something for everyone at this place, regardless of your age. I suppose if you have agoraphobia, this wouldn't be your cup of tea, however. The sense of space is amazing!
