The death toll is at least 19 after an earthquake shook Indonesia's central Maluku region on Thursday, damaging hundreds of buildings and leaving over 500 people displaced.

Three North Korean fishing vessels and 262 crew members have been detained by the Russian Federal Security Service for poaching in waters that Moscow considers its exclusive economic zone.

Protesters chanting anti-government slogans trapped Hong Kong's leader, Carrie Lam, inside a stadium for hours into early Friday after she held her first "open dialogue" in a bid to end months of unrest.

The European Union and Japan signed an infrastructure deal on Friday to coordinate transportation, energy and digital projects linking Europe and Asia, seeking an alternative to Chinese largesse that has raised suspicion.
