Australian singer song writer Kavisha Mazzella together with Storyteller and Author Arnold Zable co -wrote the song" All God's Beggars" for the play "Kan Yama Kan" ("Once Upon A Time" in arabic) .The song is an ironic Christmas Carol begging the question If Australia is a so called Christian country where the politicians even pray The Lord's Prayer in parliament ,why do they treat refugees who are already traumatised so badly? What is it they fear from people seeking safety?.

This play told the true stories of Middle Eastern refugees who escaped the war and asked for asylum in Australia spending time in Detention Centres under often unneccessarily cruel conditions. The play was written in response and protest against the xenaphobic attitudes of the Australian Government Policy .

"Kan Yama Kan" was directed by Robyn Laurie,co-written by Robyn Laurie, Carmel Davies, Arnold Zable ,Oaham and Kavisha Mazzella for The Fitzroy Learning Network's production at Trades Hall Melbourne in 2002. Starring Lisa Maza, Alice Garner (Actors for Refugees) Majid Shokor ,Dursan Acar, Kavisha Mazzella and The Boat People Choir ."All God's Beggars "was recorded for Kavisha's 2003 ARIA nominated album " Silver Hook Tango" by Harry Williamson of Spring Studios featuring Producer and guitar master Gerry O 'Beirne from Ireland on 12 string guitar and ukelele.

ALL GOD'S BEGGARS © A.Zable/ K.Mazzella/Peermusic

The beggar at the side of the road says
" brother, any spare change?"
You glare straight ahead " don't encourage them !"
you say and walk up that Progress Hill
Shall we walk up the progress hill dear friends
where the rules are all that matter?
where your heart is colder than winter's snow
we will walk, we will walk together....

In the dead of night, there's a knock at the door
the urgent voice tells you to flee
you must find a safe place your freedom
there's no queue when you run for your life
Alleluia! Alleluia!
you must find a safe place your freedom
there's no queue when you run for your life

On a sinking boat a woman gave birth
off the coast of Java
while a Christmas Card I gave to my love
celebrated the birth of another
Alleluia! Alleluia!
while a Christmas Card I gave to my love
celebrated the birth of another

What is it that we fear so much
what is it dear Australia?
we are a land full of refugees
and this good land has been our saviour
Alleluia Alleluia
we are a land full of refugees
and this good land has been our saviour

Let the children sing this song and gather round our fire
let our hands undo the bully's grip
that puts them behind Razor wire

Alleluia Alleluia(X4)

The beggar at the side of the road says" brother give me shelter"
sit down wish him well and share your meal
after all aren't we all
God's beggars.....
