Her name is Glenda, but everyone knows her by the name of Sister Glenda. She has been singing since she was little, but she became publicly known in 2002 when she was called to sing in a Mass celebrated by John Paul II at the World Youth Day in Toronto. H2o found Sister Glenda at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana at the Camino a Emaús Conference for Latino Catholics, hosted by the American Bible Society. This Chilean religious sister, living in the Catalonian diocese of Terrassa, in Spain, explained why her songs touch so many people."I dont know. You know that we dont have Grammy Awards, were not on the Top 40 charts and were not the top sellers. What I would really like our success to be is that many people who listen to one of the songs may encounter Jesus, receive peace and come back to God. However, I think that people like the songs because they are seeking something that has to do with God, and the songs are Bible texts -- the Bible verses, spoken, are very powerful, but I believe that if they are sung it is twice as powerful and twice as impacting."Is praying through singing a way of coming closer to God?"It depends on how one sings. Singing doesnt guarantee that you are close to God. St. Paul says that everything that we do, we have to do it from the heart. If you sing from the heart, that will lead you to God because God inspires you to those holy desires to serve Him."
