It wasn't that the Winnipeg Goldeyes couldn't get hits. It was the timely hits that were lacking Friday night.

Winnipeg hit into a Northern League record seven double plays and were dumped 3-0 by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks before a large crowd of 6,824 at Canwest Park.

Goldeyes starter Chris Salamida was brilliant on the mound, but Fargo finally got to him in the sixth inning when Eric Campbell hit a line drive two-run home run.

An inning later, Alan Rick scored from third on a wild pitch from Ian Thomas.

Salamida struck out a season-high 12 batters, while walking just one. It's the most strikeouts by a Goldeyes pitcher in a single game this season.

Fargo starter Jake Laber pitched seven shutout innings to get the win.

The two teams meet again Saturday night in a doubleheader, which begins at 6 p.m. Two seven-inning games will be played.

Winnipeg is now 4.5 games behind the Gary SouthShore RailCats for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Northern League. The Goldeyes have lost four in a row and at best can split this six-game series.

Great seats are moving fast for Saturday's double dip, but can still be purchased by visiting any Ticketmaster location, online at Ticketmaster.ca or by calling 780-3333.
