http://www.filmconnection.com If you are thinking about becoming a lawyer, doctor or accountant, then higher education is virtually a prerequisite. However, in the media industries (film, radio, music), higher education is more of a hindrance than an advantage.

Not only will most of what you learn have little practical application to how things are done in the real world, the reality is once you graduate you'll need to start as an unpaid intern.

This means you will be starting at the exact same place as someone who starts interning right out of high school, except that you will be starting four years later. So, while you may have your degree, the person who hires you will be the kid who skipped higher education, cut to the chase, paid their dues by interning and is now running the film production company.
