Sejal Hathi (22) is a first-year MD/MBA student at Stanford University, pursuing a career at the nexus of medicine, technology, and social innovation. An avid social entrepreneur, Sejal founded both the nonprofit Girls Helping Girls at age 15, and the social enterprise girltank at age 19, dedicated to socially and economically empowering young women globally-- thus far, in 104 countries. Sejal is also a Founding Partner at S2 Capital, an early-stage social fund that invests equity and debt in young entrepreneurs in the developing world. She has served as a USA Ambassador to Ashoka, a “For Girls in Science” Ambassador to L’Oreal USA, an Innovation Advisor at the U.S. Small Business Administration, and an adviser on youth development and women and girls to the U.S. State Department, UNESCO (U.S. National Commission), Youth Service America (Board member), the World Bank (YDP Network Board), Girls for a Change (Board), and State Farm Insurance (Board).
Most recently, Sejal was appointed to the United Nations Secretary General’s independent Expert Review Group for Women’s and Children’s Health, in which capacity she assesses and reviews progress of accountability mechanisms for women’s and adolescents’ health globally. Sejal has spoken at TEDWomen, TEDxTeen, and the United Nations, among other venues; and has been named a Forbes 30 Under 30 Honoree, a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, a Harry S. Truman Scholar, one of Newsweek’s “150 Women Who Shake the World,” a National Jefferson Award winner, a United States Presidential Scholar, a Paul & Daisy Soros Fellow, one of CNN’s Young People Who Rock, and one of Glamour Magazine's Young Women of the Year for her work. A published author and Yale Global Health Fellow, Sejal graduated with honors from Yale University with a B.S. in Molecular, Cellular, & Developmental Biology in May 2013.
