This is an example of a cover that I play at my live shows.

I take a song, learn it on acoustic guitar, and then arrange additional parts that sound good with the acoustic version. I use a loop pedal to record the additional music parts in real-time (nothing is pre-recorded), and then I perform the song with the backing track that I just created.

The result is a familiar cover song with a unique twist, and the audience watches while I record and perform these arrangements live.

The signal chain on this is definitely the best I've used so far.

The acoustic guitar and keyboard plug directly into the Boss RC30 loop station, and I control their loops with my feet. The loop station and the microphone plug into a powered mixer that I use for live sets. Aside from the two speaker outputs on the powered mixer, there is a mono output for "main" and another for "monitor'. I used these two outputs to record guitar/piano and vocals separately.

Both channels fed into a presonus audiobox USB, which fed the information to StudioOne so I could adjust levels, add compression, etc. (I was very happy to find out that I could separate the guitar and vocals . This made mixing much, much easier than if I had a single mono output with both signals, or the entire mix in one channel).

There are better ways to do it, but those cost money, which is something I do not have. I'm pretty satisfied that I was able to make this work with the gear that I have.

Filmed with an iPhone 8 and a GoPro Hero Session. I used iMovie to put it all together. Start to finish, this probably took about 8 hours of production, plus the time to learn the song and write the arrangement.

Hoping to add more soon. Feel free to add questions in the comments.
