From: Jennifer Donohue on Behalf of U.S. Senator Max Baucus
Re: UPDATE: Baucus meets with Singaporean Foreign Minister re Shane Todd Case

Montana's senior U.S. Senator Max Baucus will met with Singaporean Minister for Foreign Affairs & Law, K Shanmugam, in Baucus' Senate office today regarding the case of Shane Todd, an American who died in Singapore under suspicious circumstances. Todd's parents reside in Marion, Montana. Additional background information on the case is available: http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/2/afbddb....

Baucus held a media availability before the meeting and released the following statement. Additional background on his work in the case is available below.

"Today's meeting is about getting answers -- getting complete answers. So far we've been unable to get the answers we need to know what happened to Shane Todd, and we are unable to know the degree to which there might be some breach of national security. I will impress upon the Foreign Minister that we have to get to the bottom of this, and so far answers have not been forthcoming.

"I looked in the eyes of the parents and I saw grief, I saw resolve, I saw sadness, and I saw love, and that inspires me to do whatever it takes to get to them bottom of this. I will stop at nothing until I am satisfied that the parents have closure, and I am convinced there has been no national security breach or improper transfer of technology that puts America at risk.

"I'm going to do whatever it takes. Every once in a while something comes along that pushes you to go above and beyond and you decide you will do whatever it takes. This is one of those times for me and I will make sure the Foreign Minister knows how serious I am."
