The heart of the system is an Arduino Nano, measuring the distance with an infrared sensor (GP2Y0A41SK). I read the data over the serial connection in SciLab and transform the polar distance measurements into 3D-coordinates, which are then drawn in the graph. I drive it by two stepper motors of the type 28BYJ-48. To provide sufficient power, I followed a nice tutorial to get higher speed and torque: http://www.jangeox.be/2013/10/change-...
