Buddy Holly recorded Rave On, on the 25 January ,in a few snatched hours between packing and unpacking. He had just finished a round of Christmas shows at the New York Paramount, and then set off on a tour with The Everly Brothers, Paul Anka and Danny And the Juniors. On Jan 27th, he was due to fly out to Hawaii for two shows and then on to a week long tour of Australia, accompanied by Paul Anka and Jerry Lee Lewis. This was to be Buddys first recording session since his new found fame, outside of Norman Pettys Clovis studios and was to prove to Holly and everybody else that he did not need Pettys sound for continued success. He recorded at the Bell Sound studios, New York, using session men as opposed to the Crickets. This session was prompted mainly by a song written by the writers of Oh Boy, Sonny West and Bill Tilghman. Buddy couldnt wait to record the song and so New York was chosen as a stop gap on his relentless touring. Rave On and Thats My desire were recorded in a six-hour session, with Rave On proving to be a huge nbr 5 smash in Britain, but strangely only reaching nbr 37 in the States. This would prove to be no co-incidence, with further Holly releases failing to chart in America, yet going top ten in Britain. Regardless, Rave On is an all time classic that many believe to be Buddys best song and i love it!!!!!!!!!!!
