David Friedman, anarchist author, on the fundamental purpose of acquiring knowledge. Does David Friedman want anarchism now? No. He says he is not a reformer. What is his ultimate purpose? What is the purpose of acquiring knowledge if not effective action? Do you try to persuade other people that anarchism is preferable to limited government in order to make it more likely to have anarchism?
I don't like to waste time debating anarchism with an anarchists who don't want anarchism now, but instead some time in the future when this or that changes. It was disappointing to find out at the end of the debate that Friedman fell into that category, years of transition waiting for all legal issues to be resolved by an appeals courts/ arbitrators to create a uniform code of justice in 100 years, if ever.
