Well, some kickass women have started out the 2012 film year with a bang. We've been noticing a bit of a trend with this year's upcoming releases, many of which feature strong leading ladies kicking some serious butt. Gina Carano and Kate Beckinsale both starred in two of the biggest movies of last month, so we thought we'd make a list of our most anticipated kickass ladies to watch this coming year. Let's get started

First up, of course, is Gina Carano. 'Haywire' was the first starring role for this former MMA beauty, and she's obviously a hit. Gina's got the 'tude, the moves, and the looks that made her a breakout badass star after only a month. She even won the first annual Chuck Norris Award as 'Best Female Action Star' of the year.

Next up is Kate Beckinsale. Those 'Underworld' movies just don't get old, and I think Kate's got a lot to do with it. She's got the badass moves to take down vampires and no one has ever looked better in pleather and a trenchcoat.

Next we have 'The Hunger Games' Jennifer Lawrence. We all saw the grit she possesses in 'Winter's Bone' and 'X-Men: First Class,' but to be chosen as the best badass in all of 'The Hunger Games' takes some serious lady-balls. Lawrence has trained and bulked up quite a bit for this role, so we have no doubt that she will be carrying the torch as the Kickass Lady of Spring 2012.

Our next kickass lady of 2012 is 'The Avengers' Scarlett Johansson. We already got to see her kicking some major butt in 'Iron Man 2,' so we're excited to see her Black Widow hold her own amongst all the rest of the bulky man-Avengers. (Insert Cape-Chaser joke here?)

Next up is Kristen Stewart in 'Snow White and the Huntsman.' We're excited to see K-Stew in a bad-ass twist on wimpy old Snow White (and Bella), and with Chris Hemsworth helping her along, I have no doubt that he'll instill her Snow White with all the kick-ass she needs. But she'd better keep her hands off my Chris, cuz (insert witty Tati-ism here)

Next we have Kelly MacDonald in Disney-Pixar's 'Brave.' We know she's just the voice of the character, but you can't provide a bad-ass voice if you don't have a kick-ass personality to match, right? Nonetheless, for Pixar's first female protagonist, they chose to go the fierce and noble route, which is just one more reason that 2012 is proving to be the year of the ladies.

Next on our list of kickass ladies is Adrianne Palicki. After being cast in the failed pilot for 'Wonder Woman' last year, Palicki is finally getting to show the world her skills, first as Lady Jane in 'G. I. Joe: Retaliation' and then as Toni in the remake of 'Red Dawn.' We're excited to see these, cuz she's probably got some pent up frustration about that pilot to get out.

Our next kickass lady is Anne Hathaway, Cat-Woman herself. Even though Anne has mostly played cute roles in her career, the bitchiness she displayed in 'The Devil Wears Prada' and 'Brokeback Mountain' leave us no doubt that this new addition to her resume will be amazing. Add to the mix Christopher Nolan's abilities to make the most lovable actors perfectly embody the most hated villains (thanks Heath), and I think we'll have a prrr-fectly kick-ass Cat-Woman to look forward to this summer.

Next up, I'm putting these two badass ladies into one category: Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale in this year's remake of 'Total Recall.' The original featured a pretty awesome fight between two ladies vying for the loyalty of Quaid, and since Biel and Beckinsale have both been known to kick some ass in past films, we expect that a fight between these two might be the most badass thing we'll see all year.

Next up is Milla Jovovich in 'Resident Evil: Retribution.' I know that there have been like a million of these, but Milla's just so awesome and perfectly embodies this character. In fact, it's like the only character I can remember her being since 'The Fifth Element' and 'Zoolander.' She's definitely got the badass attitude and looks to go with it, and you can't go wrong with a badass girl wielding a huge handgun, right?

And last but not least, our final kickass lady of 2012 will be Evangeline Lily in 'The Hobbit.' She has hinted that her character, Tauriel, will be featured in the end of the first installment. But if we have to wait to really see her until the second film in 2013, then she'll just carry the lady badass-ness over till next year, and that's fine with us. We know that Evangeline can really kick some ass from her days on 'Lost,' but as a lady elf wielding two daggers and some bow and arrow, we think she'll be a nice combo of Arwen's graceful-yet-fierce horse-riding and Legolas's kick-ass sexiness from the previous Middle-Earth films.
