WASHINGTON, June 8--Speaking on the Senate floor yesterday afternoon, Sen. Sessions unveiled a package of amendments to reform food stamps, a benefit program that expanded dramatically in recent years. Since 2001, food stamp rolls have nearly tripled, while spending on the program more than doubled since 2008. Indeed, food stamps are now the second-largest of nearly 80 federal welfare programs, including 17 nutrition support programs.
