Force of friction can be classified as static or kinetic force of friction. The opposing force acting on a body at rest is called static force of friction and the opposing force acting on a body when it is in motion is known as kinetic force of friction. It is directly proportional to the normal reaction acting on the surface of contact or we can say that the frictional force is directly proportional to the weight of the body. It is independent of the area of contact.
