Freeze drying is a popular method for preserving microorganisms for long term stability. When processed correctly, freeze-dried microbes can remain viable for years. The process is very dependent upon the equipment available for lyophilization, as many laboratories have assembled components into systems while others have contained console type freeze dryers. Significant variables that influence success include buffer type, type of system (manifold type of shelf dryer), and organism characteristics.

This webinar is intended to provide the audience with a basic overview of the lyophilization process to assist participants in determining the best freeze drying method for their particular application(s). It will include suggestions to determine if the process has been performed correctly, as well as a discussion of the various reagents and storage options.
