BeeAware: Bee Biosecurity Video Series. Video 9. Managing pollination services in the presence of varroa
Pollination is an important part of the commercial production of many crops, but if Varroa destructor becomes established in Australia, based on overseas experience, we can expect to lose both unmanaged and managed colonies.
Setting honey bee and pollinator-reliant industries on a good path now by forming good relationships between beekeepers and growers, developing pollination contracts, understanding chemical use and honey bee behaviour will prepare Australia in advance should varroa arrive.
