Start building relationships -- students, staff, parents. Kids feel like they matter, and that what they do matters as well. This fosters a wonderful culture of learning. Two of the 11 Principles of Effective Character Education in particular (creating a caring community [principle 4] and offering a meaningful and challenging curriculum [principle 6]) really pay off.

The Crestwood school motto: Where the spirit of learning soars and character grows. In 2011, National Blue Ribbon School and NSOC. They were the only school in 2011 in the country that achieved both distinctions.
