From swim club and the University Scholars program to her participation in a litany of service events, Kat Griffin is making the most of her time on campus.

"I love NC State," she said. "It is hard to put a finger on what exactly I like best, but I guess it all comes down to the people: the students, faculty and staff."

An international studies major traveling to Egypt during the summer of 2008, Kat was ecstatic to find that her NC State professors not only took an interest in her education but would also go the extra mile to help shape her as an individual.

"Every faculty member I've met has been friendly, knowledgeable and always willing to help," she said. "I've contacted a few professors about undergraduate research and they have all offered to meet with me and discuss research opportunities."

"NC State has offered me so much in such a short time, and I can't wait to see what happens over the next three years!"

The Montreat, NC, native said one of her best decisions was her choice to live on campus as a freshman. Late-night snacks, midnight runs to the C-store, movies and all-night study sessions have helped Griffin forge meaningful friendships with those living closest to her.

"Being in a completely foreign setting without friends and family around, I learned to climb out of my comfort zone and meet new people, many of whom are the coolest people I know," she said. "I think this is one of the greatest experiences of college life."
