Suzanne Walker is the kind of person you want on your side when the going gets tough. When faced with a challenge, Walker, the longtime PTA president of Midvale Elementary School, simply rolls up her sleeves, smiles into the horizon, and makes sure that the tough gets going. Whether leading the after-school choir, serving snacks to families at the year-end carnival or supervising a fund-raising book sale, Walker has gracefully and successfully tackled the important tasks at hand, including building inroads with the varied and various families who live within Midvale's boundaries. With Walker at the helm of Midvale's PTA, every child and parent, no matter their native land or tongue, has felt welcomed and cherished. Walker's dedication to her community also extends far past the schoolhouse walls. In fact, she's as well known for her starring turn as the leader of the city's Arts Council as she is for her fervent dedication to her neighborhood schools. For her tireless commitment to making the world around her a better place, it's the Board of Education's honor to award Suzanne Walker with the Apex Award for Volunteer of the Year.
