Title explanation:
On December 2, 1997 one of the greatest acoustic guitarists and songwriters of all time died in a car accident. His name was Michael Hedges. This song is influenced by his techniques and playing style. The title can be explained in two ways. The first is that Michael Hedges is the tree of most of the modern day fingerstyle guitarist. Practically all big fingerstyle guitarists recognize him as one of the forefathers of the acoustic fingerstyle music and therefore he is the tree form which all branches grow. The second title explanation is the first story I heard about his death. On December the 2nd Michael Hedges drove home after a thanksgiving visit. On the way home his car skidded off the road down a big cliff where the car hit a tree. Michael Hedges died instantly in this accident. Many other stories can be found about his death however this was the first I ever heard and therefore I called this piece Tree.
