First day after surgery! I had a big appetite and I walked about 2000 feet. When the tube was removed, it scratched the back of my throat. No pain in my shoulders or back, just where the drainage tubes are and at the top of my incision (its all manageable with morphine and percocet).

Thank you for posting! I'm due to have open heart surgery. I'm so terrified and have no idea what to expect. I almost go into a panic attack just thinking about it. Sorry you had to go through that though. Hope things are going good for you. :)

my first heart surgery I did like you.  I was 53 I got up and walked a couple steps to the chair, no problem.  my second heart surgery 8 years later I was 61, a little different.  I barely moved my ass from bed to chair and I felt like I had ran twin 26 mile marathons, totally out of breath, totally drained.  recover much harder.  I pray you never have to have a second, or anyone for that matter, it's tough and it gets tougher the older you get and the more heart surgerys you have.

I'm right there with you Jim.  Double BP first time and aortic valve (cow)/aorta (Dacron) replacement second time.  Second time was a pain for sure.  But we're still here!!!  Hope everyone heals well and quickly!!!
CEASE TO MURMUR
Thanks for posting these videos!!! I am 34 and had a non stented aortic pig valve and an aortic graft four weeks ago tomorrow. Your posts gave me a really good idea of what I was in for!!! One cannot prepare too much for such an invasive surgery!

That is so good to hear! I get so worried and scared thinking about having to do this all over again! I love doing CrossFit and obstacle course races (like Spartan races) and just hope I don't wear my pig valve out too fast.

I'm doing great. I have a friend who had his pig valve last thirty years. Ya I'm doing well I love to exercise. Went walking for hour and a half this morning

Hi buddy I has the aortic value replacement oparation last September so I know what you went through. Glad you pulled through safe and sound. I too walked like a zombie for the first few days but got there in the end ha. I'm now on warfrin tablets for the rest of my life but hey its a small price to pay for being alive. Take care and all the best. Scott from England

Scott, im about to have a Mech valve fitted (due to being born with a Bi Cuspid Aortic Valve) im 54yo so the DR's advised not to have a Pig's Valve fitted... How are you going dealing with the Warfrin ? and the balance of it ? Do you feel Stronger / Fitter after having a new valve fitted ? Regards Brendan Melbourne Australia

I am having this surgery on Tuesday and my HOPE is that I won't WANT to east for days!!! (I need to lose about 75#s!!!)
CEASE TO MURMUR
I went up 20 pounds right after surgery but just from water weight. then within the next week I lost 15 pounds but none of that weight loss was fat, all muscle :-( open heart surgery is not the best weight loss program :-) I hope all went well for you!

Being young you didn't have delirium like me after my triple bypass surgery last year. This has been the most frightening experience of all my life. It was like having a open eyes nighmare. I almost got no pain after surgery (Pain index 1.5 / 10) and even dreamed during surgery.
