Hi, I'm David with Smartscapes, LLC. I'm here to talk to you about landscaping yard maintenance. Now we have a nice, early Spring day over here in Middle Tennessee and what we're going to go through is the basics on how to maintain it. Periodically if you have an existing landscape, you're always going to have weed problems. I don't care what kind of weed barrier you put down or what kind of pre-emergent you put down or whatever else, you're always going to have weed problems. So, monthly you probably want to go through and examine what weeds you have and you may want to pull them or you may want to use Roundup. Roundup works pretty easy. You don't have to bend as far down and not quite as much work. Another thing to be taken into consideration is fertilization. Now, most plants usually appreciate being fertilized in the Spring, that way they can come out with a healthy vibrant growth, kind of like what you're seeing over here with these Knockout Roses behind us. They're coming out pretty well because we had fertilized them a little earlier. Also you want to take into account your mulch. Are you mulching in the Spring? Are you mulching in the Fall? Are you using pine needles, are you using pine needles, are you using pine bark? That's all to be considered. Most people what to do it at least annually. Some clients want to do it twice a year. Another thing comes up is your hedge trimming. In hedge trimming that's a whole different kettle of fish. Certain things need to be trimmed at certain times of year, certain things need to be trimmed back down to the ground in the Fall. Some things need this. Some things need that, so you're going to have to consult an Encyclopedia or a plant Encyclopedia for care on each bush's needs. For example, Knockout Roses and Hydrangea, we cut those back late Fall each year and they come back more vibrant than ever. We just covered landscape yard maintenance, the basics of it anyway here in Middle Tennessee. I'm David with Smartscapes, LLC. For more information, check out website out at LandscapesNashville.com.
