Day is the son of Maurice "Jake" Day, the illustrator for Beston's early books and later drew "Bambi" for Walt Disney. Day read this passage, which is the final paragraph of "The Outermost House" in a Maine setting, at the National Literary Landmark dedication for Beston's Chimney Farm at the Nobleboro Grange Hall in Nobleboro, Maine on June 21, 2009.
