I recorded what the 33c3 in Hamburg sounded like when listening to electromagnetic fields.
The device I'm using is called Elektrosluch Mini by LOM Label. I bought it as a DIY kit. It records alternating electromagnetic fields using two inductors and outputs stereo sound via headphone jack.
My recording setup was the Elektrosluch connected to a Griffin iMic USB sound card (the white puck seen in some shots), which was connected to my iPhone via USB to Lightning adapter. The app I used was MoviePro because it allowed me to monitor the audio input during recording.
Correction: The congress center apparently has a hearing loop phased array for hearing aids that support telecoil and spans all 1500 seats. That's why I was able to hear the talks from the outside. Very impressive.
