NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGMENT INTENDED, I OWN NOTHING BUT THE EDITING.

This is just random AU stuff that came together as I went along. Some of the storyline fits the meaning behind this amazing song, and it starts at 5x18 with Lucas calling and proposing to Brooke. Which we all know he wouldn't have thought to do on the actual show, because he didn't really consider Brooke an option. And because from Brooke's end, there's no way she would go for a proposal like that.

But it starts with the idea that Luke takes that chance and Brooke does take him seriously, she just of course doesn't accept, even though it breaks her heart all the same. Luke does leave Tree Hill and dives into business with his book and what not. Brooke meets Julian and they begin to date, and the relationship has plenty ot turmoil, but they still go back to each other and end up engaged. This happens over the course of a year that Luke is gone, at which point he returns home to Tree Hill. He sees Brooke at her bachlorette party, then heads over to her house where they have it out over the way they left things. Brooke is then hesitant if Luke will show up to her wedding, but he does, and fufills his promise by reading her some of the nice things he's written about her for this day. Shaken by this, Brooke leaves Julian at the alter. Both Brooke and Lucas struggle with what to do or say, while Brooke is comforted by Haley. At the end Luke shows up and gives Brooke her wedding present, the box of 82 letters. They have a moment of flashback and acknowledgement of their relationship, those feelings still looming beneath the surface. *I chose the flashback of the "I forgive you" moment just because it was part of the 82 letters scene and their history, but also to tie in with them forgiving each other now, if you see it that way.

SO wow. Yes, there's the detailed version if you don't get my randomness, but hopefully you like it. :) I guess it's some weird combo of the possibilites of Lucas coming back now after being away from Tree Hill/ what coud've happened with 5x18 as a turning point/ possibilites if Luke had been at Brooke's wedding.
