In late August of 2018, NVRRP packed up and headed down to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Narrow Gauge Railroad of Chama, New Mexico. The trip was to capture Trains Magazine's freight charters, celebrating the last revenue freights of the Denver & Rio Grande Western's San Juan Extension. In this series, we bring to you powerful footage of the chartered freight trains at work all across the C&TS System for you to enjoy. During Part 1, watch as both engine and train crews prepare for an early morning departure from Chama with an Eastbound freight bound for Antonito. K-36s #483 and #484 are both topped with water and coal prior to taking their respective locations within their train. While the other locomotives are prepared for the daily passenger trains up the pass, we head out of town and start the grueling climb to the top of Cumbres Pass. Stay with us now, as the trip has just begun! Rate. Comment. Subscribe. ENJOY!!! Copyright Nick Valdez Railroad Photography 2019.
