=====================
In our last installment of our Mother's Day series we are teaching you how to upgrade a classic recipe, one that everyone's grandma or mother had a version of; an Egg in a Basket.

The classic Egg in a basket is known by several other other names, including "toad in the hole", ""a hole in one", "gashouse eggs "a spit in the ocean", and "popeye eggs". This is an egg fried in a hole of a slice of bread.

Today in Freeman Joseph Media's most recent Quick Recipe, we show you how to upgrade this recipe of many names! To start you butter up your two slices of bread, make sure it's room temperature butter, spreading fresh out of the refrigerator butter can be a royal pain. After you butter both sides of your bread, add an unhealthy amount of cheese between the two slices and it aside for a few minutes.

Bring a pan to your stove top or induction burner and begin cooking off some bacon, as the fat begins to render off, add in your a drizzle of maple syrup and a couple pinches of white granulated sugar, this will create some incredible maple candied bacon, let it crisp up and set it aside for a future dicing.

At this point you're going to go ahead and start making your standard grilled cheese. On medium heat fry both sides until golden brown and the cheese in the center has melted and begun to caramelize.

Remove your grilled cheese from the pan, and use a wide mouth shot glass or a mini mason jar to make a hole in the center of your grilled cheese. Place your sandwich back in the pan (sans the center) and crack an egg in the whole, sprinkle with more cheese and cover the pan while your egg cooks to your desired doneness, approximately 4 minutes on a medium temperature for a nice runny yolk.

That is really all there is to it, dice up your sticky candied bacon, sprinkle on top as a garnish, and use the center of your sandwich to dip!

Thank us later!

As a fun fact this is the same dish that has been prepared in V For Vendetta and referred to as an "Eggy in a Basket" as well as in Friends, when Joey Tribiani created his version entitled the "Eggs with the bread with the hole in the middle, a la me!"
