Kampuchea Krom History. " Kampuchea Krom" are Khmer words meaning Lower Cambodia. It is the area of land along the Mekong River Delta region that was inhabited exclusively by Khmer until the early 1600s then a group of Vietnamese came to establish a trading post at Prey Nokor, a major Khmer seaport along the India-China trade route.
