Variation IX (Nimrod) from Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations is played on piano as the missing Principal Theme (Ein feste Burg) is performed on trumpet. This melodic mapping supports the case for Martin Luther's 'A Mighty Fortress' as the unstated Principal Theme to the Enigma Variations. In the original 1899 program note Elgar explained the hidden melody plays 'through and over' the set of Variations. To learn more about this discovery, visit enigmathemeunmasked.blogspot.com
