At A Glance
You're a very nosy fellow, kitty cat, huh? Kinda' like Jack Nicholson's character in Chinatown. 'Cept you're sniffing around the Owens Valley looking for curves rather than wondering what happened to the water that once made this area rich and green. You know what happens to nosy fellows on a bike? Huh? No? Wanna guess? Okay. They find DHs. Like this one that knifes east into the White Mtns, slices down into Deep Springs Valley, cuts sweetly up round the base of Chocolate Mt and finally noses you almost to Nevada. The abundant swirls of Twistiness produced by the light and dark mountains are bracketed by warm up/cool down straights either end and a very long, plain ol' vanilla stretch in the middle. The melt-in-your-mouth Pavement permeates most of the road except either side of Westgard Pass, where the generally good Engineering can drain away faster than water. On the other hand, no H2O means no development. So Remoteness is excellent and lets you breathe in the desolate badlands Scenery the entire way. And with so little traffic, you don't have to worry much about a speed tax collector sticking a switchblade up your nostril. Sure, it's a shame that in the early 1900s all the water was stole... er, brought from this area to Los Angeles. But today, Big Pine should attract a rich torrent of riders bringing green from LA. If it doesn't bring you, well as Jake would say, you're dumber than you think we think you are.
