The Pedagogy of Autonomy book, published in 1996, focus on questions of teaching practice, from elementary to postgraduate education.

The fundamentals of this pedagogy are the principles of ethics, respect for dignity and the encouragement of student autonomy - which implies a deep openness of the diversity of knowledge that everyone already brings from their personal experiences, and which become the starting point for educational exchanges.

The awareness that the teacher is also an learner, that he learns while teaching, and not only can, but should learn from the students, all these are fundamental notions to question the authoritarian practices that hinder the educational relations.
