A very rare recording I uncovered from tapes I made of the Dick Cerri Music Americana radio show from 1987 in Washington, D.C.
Dick hosted concerts in DC also at the now gone Cellar Door in Washington and John Denver appeared solo, a the Cellar Door, while being a member of the Chad Mitchell Trio. One member of the Trio backed him up on guitar that evening of 1966. The show was broadcast on radio in DC, as this was John's second time singing the song in public and the first radio broadcast for it. It was titled at the time "Babe I Hate To Go" at the time before it was recorded by Peter Paul and Mary as Leaving on a Jet Plane. John handled a heckler too in the crowd. The lady with Dick talking in the beginning handled concert announcements on the show, Doris Justice, as she has her own duo, Side by Side.
Radio the way it used to be. The Mountain is Blue Hill Mountain in Maine, near WERU Radio started by Noel Paul Stookey. Notice that John had the line of the song, "Already I'm So Lonesome I could die" as Peter Paul and Mary Changed the word die to cry.
