Speaking in the European Parliament on a debate to kick-off the Cypriot Presidency, European Conservatives and Reformists group leader Martin Callanan MEP welcomed the new Cypriot President to the chamber, calling on him to make the EU more effective and efficient.
He also responded to comments made by President Barroso, who accused him of taking 'delight' at the woes facing the euro. Saying that this was 'frankly absurd', he asked President Barroso, "Do you honestly think that we are pleased to see so many people suffer as a result of your political project?"
