Rev. John Burnett, Reflections on the Word
Scripture: Levitus 19:1-2,9-10; Matthew 25:37-40

Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.' Matthew 25:37-40

This Sunday, unified in one worship service at 10 am, we will worship the Lord in thankfulness for our many blessings, and respond to the stranger in need with our hearts, our hands, and our treasure. Our congregation has participated in distributing Thanksgiving meals to the needy in our community for many years. Traditionally, we pack the boxes on a weekday before Thanksgiving and take the meals to Lutheran Social Services for distribution. Several folks have been able to help in the past, but this year we want to have our congregation involved in this undertaking. Our worship service on Sunday will include actively filling the boxes and giving funds to cover the cost of the contents. Come be a part of this service of love.

Leviticus 19:1-2
The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them: You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

Leviticus 19:9-10
When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very edges of your field, or gather the gleanings of your harvest. You shall not strip your vineyard bare, or gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the alien: I am the Lord your God.

Matthew 25:37-40
Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’
