http://www.vacheron-constantin.com The Métiers d'Art -- La Symbolique des Laques collection highlights a combination of talents, the Master Watch-maker and the Lacquer artist, opening a new horizon to the alliance between technical watchmaking and decorative technique. Maki-e, a technique of Japanese lacquer developed in the 8th century and mastered by a handful of craftsmen after years of training and practice, is a unique art form of sprinkle gold powders on contour lines drawn with sticky Urushi lacquer (Urushi comes from the resin of a tree) to form elaborate artistic designs. True to the spirit of the Métiers d'Art collection, La Symbolique des Laques theme will change over a period of three years, with each year bringing a new set of three watches in a limited series of twenty.
