This week we are answering a question from a viewer about alone time and fighting. They asked if we find we need alone time living in the Airstream and if so how we go about getting it. They also asked general questions about relationships and fighting in such a small space.
We are pretty lucky in this respect. We are both introverts and are okay with quiet time so most of the time we do our own separate work or hobbies quietly near one another without disturbing the other person. We make sure to wear headphones and are good at zoning the other person out. It also helps that we have separate hobbies and responsibilities so we have our own things to do during the day.
We also don't fight very often (whether in the Airstream or a home). Steve is incredibly laid back and therefore is willing to go with whatever Courtney wants/needs most of the time. When he doesn't Courtney knows that he must have a strong opinion and normally gives in. We are also both very flexible (it helps a lot in this lifestyle) so when things don't go to plan we don't get upset. We just play to our strengths which complement each other and do the best we can.
We think living in the Airstream has made our relationship better not worse! It makes us appreciate each other more and be more aware of our own annoying habits or stubborn assumptions.
If we do need time apart then we will go for a walk, or Courtney will stay home while Steve goes to the gym, or one of us will go back in the bedroom and close the sliding door. It doesn't happen often but sometimes it is nice to be able to be alone for a little while and even on the road you have that option.
What do you think? Do you need alone time while RVing? How do you accomplish it?
