Today I'm on the roof of the Cannon Garage, and as you can see behind me, the steel for the new James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute and Critical Care tower is beginning to go up! This is an exciting milestone for our project, which continues to remain on schedule, under budget, and safe. I want to thank all the workers who have served at the site since our groundbreaking. You've truly established the foundation for a new era at OSU Medical Center. And I want to extend a welcome to all those who will be joining us at the site in the coming weeks, as we quite literally build the framework for a new model of care at Ohio State that is predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory.
This month also marks the beginning of IHIS training. Your colleagues who have stepped away from their regular duties to become certified IHIS trainers have already begun working with our super users. The training of our managers begins August 15th, and end user training will begin Monday, August 22nd. About 1,000 physicians and staff will be attending one of 52 classes scheduled that day. Once IHIS comes online October 15th, we'll have one system to support our daily workflow, one fully integrated patient record, and quicker access to information, everywhere, all the time.
August 14th through the 20th marks Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week, and I'd like to thank each and every one of you for all you've achieved in our mission to improve people's lives through patient care, education and research. Our success is a direct result of the dedication and teamwork you demonstrate in your work every day. There'll be a variety of special events and presentations this week and I hope you'll be able to attend. I hope many of you can join me for my presentation about the Women of Country Music on August 17th from noon-1 p.m. in Wallace Auditorium at University Hospital East.
Finally, I'm so delighted to announce that Dr. Charles (Charly) Lockwood will be our new Dean of the College of Medicine and Vice President for Health Sciences. Charly comes to Ohio State from Yale University School of Medicine, where he was the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. Throughout his stellar career, Charly has fostered a high-performance culture of collaboration, excellence and innovation and his talents will be instrumental in leading our College of Medicine to even greater heights. I want to thank Dr. Robert Brueggemeier, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, who chaired the Dean's search advisory committee, and the other outstanding committee members who have brought us to this wonderful outcome. Both Provost Alutto and I are so pleased that Dr. Lockwood will be our new Dean.
Just like the steel beams behind me, we're on an upward trajectory at the OSU Medical Center, and I thank you for all you do to make this such a special place.
