LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Video released Monday by BluePearl Veterinary Partners specialty and emergency hospital for pets in Louisville shows a piece of mulch being removed from a cat's eye.

The female cat named Mango is from Landis Springs, Ky., and had been homeless until about eight months ago. That's when Mike and Donna Logsdon said Mango adopted them. She showed up one day and stayed, so they began taking care of her, Donna Logsdon said.

Since then, they have fed her and provided a heated house for her to stay in during the winter.

A few weeks ago, they noticed what appeared to be an abscess by her eye and took her to BluePearl for evaluation.

Once at BluePearl, Dr. Erica Tolar, a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist with BluePearl, confirmed the infection and removed what turned out to be a long, narrow piece of mulch from Mango's left eye.

Despite that the piece of mulch had been lodged between the eye and the third eyelid, extending from the front to the back of the eye, Mango's eyesight was not affected. It is unknown how the piece of mulch wound up there.

Besides removing the mulch, doctors are treating Mango for an infection, but she is expected to make a full recovery thanks to the Logsdons and the doctors and staff at BluePearl.
