Joshua Oppenheimer spent years in Indonesia, trying to create a record of the victims of the death squads that killed millions. And then, he started talking to the "gangsters" who were hired to do the killings and found that they were not only happy to talk, but still boastful about their acts. So he gave them a chance to creatively bring what happened to life... and the results are astounding.
